The study of statistics helps us understand the world through data. In the modern world, data collection is ubiquitous and found in every facet of life. Data is collected automatically in our daily activities of internet use, shopping and public transport.Maynooth offers Statistics as a double honours subject which can be combined with most other academic subjects. This flexibility means you can combine your interest in aspects of science or society with knowledge of the statistical tools to understand data from those fields.

Statistics as part of a Joint Major Arts degree |
In the BA Joint Major with Statistics, Statistics and Mathematical Studies (including Statistics) are taken with two other subjects in first year, and with one other subject in second year. Statistics and the other subject are taken in third year. In the BA Honours in Mathematical Studies and Statistics, Mathematical Studies (including Statistics) is taken with two other subjects in first year and with one other subject in second year. Statistics as part of a Joint Major Science degree BSc – 4 years |
You will study Mathematics and three other subjects in first year. In first and second year students take Statistics as part of Mathematics. In third and fourth year students who have taken Mathematics in first and second year have the option of pursuing a Joint Major degree in either Pure or Applied Mathematics and Statistics. BA/BSc International |
Students who opt to spend a year studying abroad are awarded a BA/BSc International degree. Students can make this choice during second year. In science, some students opt to study for a semester abroad rather than an entire year. |
