Early Career Professional Development Seminar Series
Thursday Oct. 14th, 2021, 1:15-2:15pm on Teams
Following on from last year’s event with Dr. Lisa Orme and Dr. Patrick Bresnihan, we are organising another seminar for the department’s early career researchers and teaching staff. This is part of the Athena Swan committee's action plan and effort to create a more inclusive department. We hope these events will provide a useful platform to build community and exchange practical insights on professional development. This session will focus on preparing for the academic job market, including preparation of the relevant materials for applications and interview processes. We have invited Prof Conor Murphy and Prof Mary Gilmartin to discuss strategies and reflect on their experiences serving on hiring committees and mentoring early career researchers.
We invite any PhD students, research staff and fixed-term lecturers interested in pursuing a career in academia to join us for an informal discussion.

2020-2021 Seminar.
During this academic year, we are organising a series of seminars for the department’s early career researchers and fixed-term teaching staff. We hope these events will provide a useful platform to build community and exchange practical insights on professional development.
The first session will take place on Thursday November 12 at 1pm via Teams and focus on the challenges associated with moving from ‘fixed term’ research and/or teaching roles towards more permanent academic positions. We have invited
Dr. Lisa Orme and Dr.
Patrick Bresnihan to reflect on their experiences and discuss strategies for how to navigate this phase of our career.
We therefore invite PhD students, post-docs, and fixed-term / temporary staff members interested in pursuing a career in academia to join us for an informal discussion.
Please email either malene.jacobsen@mu.ie or sam.grainger@mu.ie if you would like to take part.
Best wishes,
Malene and Sam
