The demand for Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge exams is growing rapidly at present , due to the implementation of the Official Languages (Amendment) Act 2021, which aims to ensure that 20% of all new recruits to the public sector will be competent in Irish by the year 2030. It was recently announced that TEG certification will be integrated into all Irish-language training programmes provided for civil service employees.

Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge began its collaboration with OneLearning and Gaelchultúr, Coláiste na hÉireann, at the start of December with more than 360 Civil Servants from 38 government departments registered for TEG exams, from elementary (A1) to advanced (C1) level.  TEG and OneLearning are already organising another round of exams which will take place in May and June 2023.

Due to the increased demand for TEG exams, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media has awarded funding of €1.6 million to TEG to support this work and other developments over the next 3 years. Another result of this demand is that the TEG team is expanding and is currently recruiting a number of new staff. Further information is available on the University’s website
