Duais Uí Dhoibhlin i Léann an Aistriúcháin bronnta ar Emma Ní Chearúil
Tá lúcháir ar Lárionad na Gaeilge a fhógairt go bhfuiltear tar éis Duais Uí Dhoibhlin i Léann an Aistriúchán 2022 a bhronnadh ar Emma Ní Chearúil, as an marc is airde a bhaint amach sa Dioplóma Iarchéime san Aistriúchán agus san Eagarthóireacht in 2021. Tá an duais seo ainmnithe in ómós don scoláire, scríbhneoir agus aistritheoir ceannródaíoch, An Monsignor Breandán Ó Doibhlin, Iar-Ollamh le Nua-theangacha in Ollscoil Mhá Nuad agus fear atá ar thús cadhnaíochta i léann an aistriúcháin go Gaeilge.
“Tá ríméad orm go bhfuil Duais Uí Dhoibhlin á bronnadh orm, agus m’ainm a bheith luaite i measc na n-aistritheoirí cumasacha eile a bhfuil an gradam céanna bainte amach acu,” a dúirt Emma ag searmanas bronnta san Ollscoil le déanaí, “Chuir an Dioplóma san Aistriúchán agus san Eagarthóireacht feabhas as cuimse ar mo chumas teanga, shaibhrigh sé mo chuid scríbhneoireachta féin, agus chuir sé ar mo shúile dom ní hamháin na modhanna teicniúla a bhaineann leis an aistriúchán, ach an chruthaitheacht a bhaineann leis an gceird chomh maith. Táim ag tabhairt faoin MA san Aistriúchán agus san Eagarthóireacht anois, a bhuí leis an gcúrsa seo, le Lárionad na Gaeilge, agus le Roinn na Nua-Ghaeilge in Ollscoil Mhá Nuad agus táim fíorbhuíoch as an deis!"
In 2007 a cuireadh tús leis an Dioplóma Iarchéime agus tá sé á mhaoiniú ag an Údarás um Ardoideachas ó shin i leith. Bhronn an tÚdarás um Ardoideachas ciste €315,708 ar an Lárionad le déanaí chun tacú leis an gcúrsa ó 2021 go 2023. Tá seachadadh an chúrsa seo le 15 bliain anuas tar éis cur go mór le straitéis an Rialtais teangeolaithe oilte a chur ar fáil do phoist in institiúidí éagsúla Eorpacha , poist a bhfuil tábhacht níos mó ná riamh ag baint leo ó bronnadh lánstádas ar an nGaeilge san Aontas Eorpach ar an 1 Eanáir 2022.
Is cúrsa páirtaimseartha dhá bhliain ar líne é an cúrsa seo, a chuireann ar chumas rannpháirtithe ardscileanna teanga a bhaint amach. Tá céimithe de chuid an chúrsa seo ag obair i réimse leathan ról – mar aistritheoirí, léitheoirí profaí, eagarthóirí, dlítheangeolaithe, oifigigh Ghaeilge, múinteoirí agus léachtóirí, cuir i gcás. Tá poist bainte amach acu in institiúidí de chuid an Aontais Eorpaigh, i ranna agus eagraíochtaí Stáit, i ngníomhaireachtaí aistriúcháin, i scoileanna agus ollscoileanna, sna meáin, agus i gcomhlachtaí foilsitheoireachta.
Tá Lárionad na Gaeilge ag glacadh le hiarratais anois ar an Dioplóma Iarchéime san Aistriúchán agus Eagarthóireachta a bheidh ag tosú i mí Mheán Fómhair 2022 agus is é an 19 Iúil 2022 an spriocdháta le cur isteach ar an gcúrsa. Tá tuilleadh eolais ar fáil ar shuíomh an Lárionaid.
Ó Doibhlin Prize for Translation Studies awarded to Emma Ní Chearúil
The Centre for Irish Language is delighted to announce that the Ó Doibhlin Prize for Translation Studies has been awarded to Emma Ní Chearúil for achieving the highest mark in the Postgraduate Diploma in Translation and Editing in 2021. The prize is named in honour of the pioneering scholar, writer and translator, Monsignor Breandán Ó Doibhlin, former professor of Modern Languages at Maynooth University and a leader in the field of Irish-language translation.
“I’m very pleased to have been awarded the Ó Doibhlin Prize and that my name is now listed among the skilful translators who have also achieved this award,” said Emma at an awards ceremony which was held recently at the University. “The Postgraduate Diploma in Translation and Editing greatly improved my linguistic abilities, enriched my writing, and introduced me not only to the technical side of translation but also to the creative side of the skill. Thanks to this course, to the Centre for Irish Language and to the Department of Modern Irish at Maynooth University, I am now undertaking the MA in Translation and Editing and I’m grateful for this opportunity!”
The Postgraduate Diploma was started in 2007 and has been funded by the Higher Education Authority since. The Centre was recently awarded funding of €315,708 to support the course from 2021 to 2023. The provision of this course over the past 15 years has played a very important role in supporting government strategy by training linguists for positions in Irish translation in various EU institutions, positions which are more necessary than ever since 1 January 2022, when Irish became a full official language of the EU.
This course is a two-year part-time course which is taught online and enables participants to achieve high level language skills. Graduates of the course are working in a broad range of roles such as translators, proofreaders, editors, lawyer-linguists, Irish language officers, teachers and lecturers. They are employed in state departments and organizations, in translation agencies, in schools and universities, in the media, and in publishing companies.
The Centre for Irish Language is currently accepting applications for the course that will commence in September 2022 and the closing date for applications is the 11 July 2022. Further information about the course is available on the Centre for Irish Language website.
