EDI Representatives in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is committed to fostering a fair, welcoming, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment where staff and students can thrive. A key initiative in support of this goal is the establishment of EDI Representatives in each Department and School.

Role of EDI Representatives

EDI Representatives play a vital role in embedding equality, diversity, and inclusion across the Faculty. They work to:

  • Reduce workplace discrimination and promote equal access to opportunities.
  • Encourage positive attitudes and good practices towards underrepresented and minority groups.
  • Ensure EDI issues are actively discussed at the Department/School level.

EDI Representatives are culturally sensitive staff members committed to promoting a supportive and inclusive environment for all.

Responsibilities of EDI Representatives

EDI Representatives serve as key contacts within their Departments/Schools, ensuring that EDI principles are integrated into everyday practices. Their responsibilities include:

Communication & Advocacy

  • Disseminating information and sharing best practices.
  • Promoting and supporting diversity initiatives, such as the Athena Swan Charter.
  • Ensuring EDI and Athena Swan are standing agenda items at Department/School meetings.
  • Raising awareness of EDI issues and facilitating discussions within their unit.

Support & Guidance

  • Providing advice and guidance on EDI matters.
  • Acting as a point of contact for staff seeking support and signposting relevant University policies and services.
  • Promoting a culture where all staff and students are treated with dignity and respect.

Implementation & Collaboration

  • Monitoring and supporting the implementation of Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP) actions at the Department/School level.
  • Ensuring the visibility of Faculty female role models (researchers, alumni, and leaders) on departmental webpages.
  • Collaborating closely with the Faculty EDI Committee to address issues that require Faculty or institutional action.
  • Actively promoting staff and student EDI groups and events.

Through their work, EDI Representatives help ensure that the Faculty’s commitment to inclusivity is not just a principle but a lived reality for staff and students alike.
