European Research Council offers attractive, long-term funding to support excellent investigators and their research teams from all disciplines to pursue ground-breaking, high-gain/ high-risk research.
Applications can be made from any field of research.
Excellence is the sole criterion on the basis of which ERC frontier research grants are awarded.
ERC Work Programme 2018
The ERC Work Programme is available here and two calls remain open for 2018:
- ERC Advanced Grants, closing on 30th August 2018.
- ERC Proof of Concept, closing on 11th September 2018
ERC Work Programme 2019
The adoption of the 2019 ERC Work Programme, originally planned for mid-July, is now expected for the end of July or early August. The first ERC 2019 Calls, Starting Grant 2019 and Synergy 2019, should therefore open for submissions the first week of August 2018. The call closing dates remain the following : 17 October 2018 for Starting Grant 2019 and 8 November 2018 for Synergy Grants 2019.
What funding is on offer?
ERC offers attractive, long-term funding to support excellent investigators and their research teams from all disciplines to pursue ground-breaking, high-gain/ high-risk research.
Particular emphasis on the frontiers of science, scholarship and engineering. In particular, it encourages proposals of an interdisciplinary nature which cross the boundaries between different fields of research, pioneering proposals addressing new and emerging fields of research or proposals introducing unconventional, innovative approaches and scientific inventions.
There are 3 schemes depending on the stage of your career.
Scheme | Eligibility | Funding & Duration |
Starting Grants | 2 - 7 years post-PhD | Up to €2M for 5 years |
Consolidator Grants | 7 - 12 years post-PhD | Up to €2.75M for 5 years |
Advanced Grants | Track record of significant research achievement in last 10 years | Up to €3.5M for 5 years |
