About

Antonia is a Spanish native who obtained a Spanish Studies Degree (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), a Certificado de Aptitud Pedagógica (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) and an Honours Master’s Degree in Literature and Language (University College Dublin). She focused her career on Teaching Spanish as a Second Language in 1998 and since them she has completed postgraduate courses and specialised training courses.

Antonia began working in Maynooth University in 2006 as a Language Tutor. She has taught different language modules for 1st, 2nd and Final Year students. She also has been the coordinator of the 2nd Year Modules Professional Spanish (SPA203) and Narrative Spanish (SPA204).

Prior to her work in Maynooth University she worked as full/ part time language tutor in different Universities in Dublin: Trinity College Dublin, Dublin Institute of Technology and University College Dublin (Spanish Department and Applied Language Centre). She worked for many years in the Instituto Cervantes, Dublin where she taught Spanish at different levels. She was also involved in their annual teacher training courses: Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (2003, 2004, 2005 and 2016, 2017 editions) and took part in the DELE exams as First/ Second Examiner and as President of the Board (2001, 2005, 2006). Antonia is an accredited examiner of DELE for A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 levels by the Instituto Cervantes.

In addition to her teaching career, Antonia has been involved in the creation of pedagogical material for learning Spanish. Antonia worked for Authentik Language Resources Ltd. (Trinity College Dublin) as an editor and creator of material for learning Spanish in their different magazines: Authentik in Español (Advance Level), La Cometa (Intermediate Level) and Claro (Beginner Level). She co-edited a book with Pilar Garrido (GCSE Reading Practice Test, Volume 2, 2003) and took the role of Digital Assistant, publishing their weekly online reading material for the Authentik Digital Resource Bank (2005-2012) . She had also the opportunity of being the editor and writer of a full edition of Claro (2004).

Antonia collaborated with NCCA in 2001 and was involved (with Dr. Marta Giralt) in the writing of the teacher guidelines book for the pilot project of inclusion of Spanish in Primary School Curriculums and Assessment (pp.138-163).
