Brigid's Worlds Programme

Brigid's Worlds
On the occasion of the 1500th anniversary of her recorded death, Maynooth University, in collaboration with Kildare County Council, will investigate the historical origins of St Brigid and her Church of Kildare with the Brigid's Worlds conference.

This in-person conference which takes place in Renehan Hall (#15 on map) brings together leading academic experts on Brigid from universities in Italy, England, Finland, Scotland, USA, and Ireland for the first time in nearly twenty years, representing a unique historical moment.

As part of the conference, a public lecture titled ‘Brigid: The knowns and unknowns’ will be presented by Professor Catherine McKenna, Harvard University, at 19.45pm on Friday, 13th September in Iontas (#40 on map). Exploring the stories of St Brigid, where they come from, and how we evaluate them, the lecture will be preceded at 18:45 by a reception, together with a display of a replica of the early medieval ogham stone from Donaghmore, Maynooth, by Professor David Stifter (Head of School of Celtic Studies) and the launch of the OG(H)AM project video, produced by the Department of Early Irish, Maynooth University, and Department of Celtic & Gaelic, University of Glasgow.  All are welcome to this free event but registration here is necessary.
