Biography
Ollamh le Nua-Ghaeilge, scoláire litríochta agus scríbhneoir cruthaitheach. Ar na leabhair is déanaí leis tá an t-úrscéal Béal na Péiste (Gradam Uí Shúilleabháin 2023; an chéad duais don úrscéalaíocht ag Oireachtas 2022) a d'fhoilsigh Cló Iar-Chonnacht in 2023, agus an monagraf Revivalism and Modern Irish Literature – the anxiety of transmission and the dynamics of renewal (Cork University Press, 2019). Bhí sé ina Léachtóir Sinsearach in Ollscoil Uladh (2006-17) agus i gColáiste Ollscoile Naomh Muire, Béal Feirste (1998-2006). Bhain sé céim amach sa Léann Ceilteach agus sa Fhraincis in Ollscoil na Banríona (1992) agus bhronn an ollscoil chéanna PhD air in 2002. D'fhoilsigh an Clóchomhar a thráchtas dochtúireachta sa bhliain chéanna faoin teideal Seosamh Mac Grianna - an Mhéin Rúin. Rugadh agus tógadh i mBéal Feirste é agus is iardhalta de chuid Choláiste Maolmhaodhóg é.
Professor of Modern Irish, literary scholar and creative writer. His recent books include the novel, Béal na Péiste (Gradam Uí Shúilleabháin 2023; first prize in novel category, Oireachtas 2022) published by Cló Iar-Chonnacht in 2023, and the monograph Revivalism and Modern Irish Literature – the anxiety of transmission and the dynamics of renewal (Cork University Press, 2019). He was a Senior Lecturer at Ulster University (2006-17) and St Mary's University College, Belfast (1998-2006). He took his BA in Celtic Studies and French (1992) at Queen's University Belfast and received his PhD at QUB in 2002. His doctoral thesis was published in the same year by An Clóchomhar as Seosamh Mac Grianna - an Mhéin Rúin.
He was born and raised in Belfast where he attended St Malachy's College.

Prof. de Brún was awarded an AHRC (UK) Leadership Fellowship in 2016-17 to undertake a project entitled 'Rethinking Revivalism: a Conceptual Case-Study in Modern Irish Literature.' Cork University Press published his monograph, based on the project, Revivalism and Modern Irish Literature (2019). He is the supervisor of a number of doctoral theses on themes in Modern Irish Literature and the Irish Oral Tradition . His research in the history of the Irish language in Belfast has been presented in a variety of media - his edited collection of essays Belfast and the Irish Language (Four Courts Press 2006), TG4 television documentary Scéal na Fadgies (2010) and interactive exhibition for Cultúrlann MacAdam-Ó Fiaich, An Taiscumar (2011). His first book, Seosamh Mac Grianna - an Mhéin Rúin (2002), was a critical study of the work of the writing of Seosamh Mac Grianna (1900-90). His collection of short stories, Litir ó Mo Mháthair Altrama agus Scéalta Eile (2005), received the Bord na Leabhar Gaeilge prize at Oireachtas na Gaeilge.
